Dear Diary: “A Girl Who Gives Advise And Should Take Her Own”.

I just feel so lost now that you ladies can’t write in with your dilemmas,

(but do bring on the style questions! I LOVE it!).

With that said, I have been feeling like I have to get more off my chest than usual :/

Its like this…since I’m not advising (?) you lovelies, then maybe you should advise me….?

Feel free to comment your life away about my situations…?

A poem fo’ dat ass…

“Sheep’s Suit”

Woke from hibernation,

Startled really,

By the sheep’s suit,

What happen was this,

Rude and crude,

Matching honesty,

As if honesty is a game,

Well, the player played terribly,

Death to hope,

And hope for chivalry,

Oh sweet sweet sheep, will you ever know?

There are needs of confidence and strength,

Confidence even when she is quite confident herself,

At the very least make them laugh,

To think, you obtained…

Drink, drink, drink my lovely,

Drink, drink, drink, till it’s what you want,

Are you blind?

Deaf?

Can you not understand?

Third time is most definitely the charm…?

Clearly I was wrong.

Sappy, eh?

NEXT.

I always write little poems like that when I want to get something off my chest.  It seems much more dramatic than it actually is….just surprising really.  A strange encounter, to say the least.  Poems always sound so dramatic though, right?…that’s why they’re so fun.

Moving on.  Someone once told me he was a “Guy Who Can Share Some of His Fears And Loves”….I just love that vulnerability.

Also sappy, eh?

Anyhow, I had a great week with a distant friend…also, to say the least ;)

Feeling melancholy about it today though.  You know when you see a friend that you haven’t seen in a while and you re-realize how much you like them and/or how fun they are…?….and then they leave again…well thats what happened :/

Anyhow, I was going through old emails, erasing, organizing, and what not…when I found this particular email entry from back around Thanksgiving and Christmas time.  A friend of mine was inquiring about my Thanksgiving…I just re-read it and it made me so happy.  Like reading my own Diary from when I was 12 or something…so I though it only appropriate to copy and paste into my “Dear Diary” post.

“My Thanksgiving was thankful :)  Family, OLD friends, bloody marys, turkey, dancing, laughing, wine, turkey, yammmmmms, babies, bars, turkey, no sleep, bacardi waters, vintage shopping, turkey, chocolate pecan pie!, wine, sleepovers, kitty cats, turkey, brunch, santa, 5th birthday, tickles, police reports, snow, friend’s families, pumpkin chai, coffee cake, hangovers, turkey, gluten free gravey, a football game, and pumpkin pie.  I saw more family than I have since I was super young.  A bunch of my cousins have babies now!…and some of my friends too!  That was a blast.  I love kids….probably because I AM one and will be forever.  My best friend/pseudo brother’s mom was telling me I need to have kids…I was like, “um, with who?!”.  I’d rather play with them for right now.  I tickled and got tickled till I was exhausted!  I went out a couple of nights when I was home too…saw a bunch of old friends and danced with my sisters, which was so fun.  One of my cousins came out with us and that was nice.  My grandma was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, which is bullshit.  I spent a little time with her though.  Showed her and the rest of my family my line and they were pleased…I named the collection after her Christian name…”The Patricia Davis Collection”.  I love her birth name…it sounds like a 50′s movie star.  Went to a high school football game with my dad and his buddies…at my and his old high school…so perfect.  It was freezing though.  Rained so hard it woke my up in the middle of the night…snowed in the mountains.  It’s so beautiful in the winter where my parents live.”

An I’m OUT, poof!

BreannaLee

Just Some Inspiration.

My friend, Pat, told me I better start blogging for fear of all the naked girls roaming the streets not knowing what to wear next…

…I thought that was pretty much hilarious/genius…and a compliment, no?

A lot of things that have been catching my attention lately…

S H O E S .

I have a vintage pair like this, but they flair on the side of bronze and I think I like these more…?

Can’t get these out of my HEAD…ugh.

(I like these white boots for Spring/Summer).

I guess you can say that I’m ready for Spring, but I can NOT let go of Fall.

This photographer, Jenni Porkka, is captivating my mind lately…or I should say, my imagination.  The coloring of the stories makes me want to run away.  On a horse.  Wearing Indian face paint.  Right after chopping thicker bangs than my childhood had ever known.  I’ll definitely be wearing some kind of fur in the sunshine, yet I’ll never sweat, EVER.  A new Neo-Indian album (its in my head, I hope its in Karen’s) from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be streaming live from the heavens (heavy bass, please?).  Oh, and I’ll probably have the ability to fly.

Its my imagination, I can do what I want.

JUMP.

Did I mention I want to do this all alone….God, please, let me do this alone.

How beautiful is it?

Check out her site…its pretty bitchin’ the way you can navigate around it and all.

Anyhow…

Other things I can’t get enough of…well, and NEVER have been…

Fluorescent accents against natural colors…I want a piece of my hair this color.  EFF pastel streaks right now (I totally like them, just bummed they’re EVERYWHERE now).  Balls out, NEON.  Traci (my newest hairdresser/pseudo nephew’s momma <3), do you think you can do it??!!!???  I think you can.

What can I say but, I’m a product of the 80′s.

Loved when I found this because my Spring 2011 line is very much so based off this type of color vibe.  Fluorescent and nudes/pastels have been in my mind bouncing around trying to be out in life since one of my first internships when I was in design school.  I bet Maia (one of old boss’/one of the most inspirational women anyone should ever have the pleasure of knowing) still has the tear sheet (I was in LOVE with) that started the whole obsession.

WOW, I can’t wait for it to be born.

Can’t even remember where I found this (Lè Fashion..?).

Bedroom for outside the bedroom…always been my fav (sorry, I always write about it).  So happy to see the fashion world embrace it so.

Makes me feel less skanky.  Well, no, thats a lie, but I love it anyhow.

Damn straight I will be like this mother.

Too bitchin’ to even talk about.

Want/need a vintage dress that swallows my entire body with all of its fabric!  Geez, I want to cuddle up in her nook and bury myself in all that fabric.  Sorry, I got a little weird with that one, Honest, but weird.

Alright, completely into this kooky parrot button up.

BUT

How much better would it be in pastels (Yes, I Photoshopped it)?!

UGH

Now I’m mildly obsessed.

ONLY

How much better would it be if it were Flamingos?!

WOW

Mission “Crazed Search For Kooky Shirt” in effect as of now.

Lastly…

Ugh, sweet sweet baby.  This sparked something inside of me not known before now.  Get back into my life, so we can do this next.

Something about an old public indoor pool house that makes my blood boil…in the best way.  Ever known that feeling?…it’s pretty weird.  Being alone with one other person…its either a romantic moment or you’re both going to get slaughtered in a horror flick.  Either way…love the thought.  Sick, I know, but I love me some romance and equally love me some horror.

I need to start carrying a gun or something.

Shit.

On that note, HAPPY MOTHER EFFING FRIDAY!

xoxo,

BreannaLee

Lindsay’s First Gay Bar.

Another one of Lindsay creations (tank top).

And, YES, that is a male go-go dancer behind her.

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.7

Look at Meghan’s 4 hands?!…this photo is freaky…I love it.

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.14

Kook…and by kook, I mean me.

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.5

Apparently all these gay men LOVE running shoes…or maybe its because they dance THAT hard.

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.15BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.13

I don’t even know, but I have learned my lesson about drinks that are blue in color at a very young age :/

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.23BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.17

Gotta get that boom boom boom?

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.12

This was actually a second time we went out for sister’s birthday (she chose the spot), but I thought the title of “Lindsay’s First Gay Bar” was far more interesting, no?

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.20

This is Justin [he's not gay (only because I figured you might have made that assumption), but he was at dinner with us].  I love this photo, it makes me laugh.

We didn’t know this guy…and we still don’t know him, but obvi he needed some love…?

He did some crazy inappropriate dance move with my sister after this that lead to these faces…

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.24BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.9

So pretty.

Gross…and WTF?

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.21

Don’t know him either :)

BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.1BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.22BabyBs.2nd.26th.Bday.19

Sooo, in conclusion, we found (I’ve known for a while) that if you’re ever feeling down about yourself, gay men at a gay club will turn that frown upside down!  Isn’t that assumption in a movie or t.v. show or something…?

I don’t know, but it sure as hell works.  I’ll take being told I’m “fabulous” all night over a night of sulking any day!

Oh yeah, and Lindsay had a blast!!!

A 26 Year Old Divorcé.

Okay, sad to say that this is going to be the last email I respond to on “personal” issues :(

Things can get a little controversial and we’re here to have fun :)

BUT…

I will still be responding to “style” questions from now on…ask me anything in that realm and I’ll find a creative answer for you!

AskBreannaLee: I got divorced 6 months ago (messy and sad).  I’m now trying to get my single life together as I’m “back in the saddle” if you will, and move on.  I have a guy friend I’ve been friends with for 2 years, and about a month or two ago we started hanging out almost everyday.  It isn’t serious (I don’t want anything serious of course), but all of my friends and family seem to be upset that I’m hanging around with a guy at all.  My family has bbq’s every Sunday that my friends come to (they’re very open), and I invited him for the first time, and my mother threw a complete fit about it to me.  Apparently everyone misses my ex.  It’s really depressing, they weren’t married to him, and it’s my life dammit.  I don’t know how I’m supposed to be single and look towards the future if my entire family is upset with me and wants me to be lonely.  I’m only 26 years old for God sakes!
Am I being unreasonable?

Thank you,
A 26 year old Divorcé

BreannaLee: Oh wow.  Okay, well, I’ve never been married, let alone divorce…sooooooo, the first thing I would say is that I’m sure your family doesn’t want you to “be lonely”.  The only thing that I know about divorce is that my parents got divorced when I was 4 years old…and it was hard…on ALL of us.  When family members “accept” someone from the “outside” they’re really taking a big risk, you know?…letting that person into their circle of trust (via “Meet The Fockers”).  At least you can pick people your family actually likes…I don’t think my sister, Brittney, nor myself are good at that :/  Soooo, you like this guy…?…I’m going to assume that, but also take into consideration that he might REALLY REALLY like you and you “don’t want anything serious of course”. You’re a big girl and I think that you already know exactly what you need to do…it’s always the hardest to admit things to ourselves that we so willing advise our friends to do in a similar situation.  I feel like a broken record, but you need to talk to them (I feel like I say that to every girl that writes in).  Your family seems like they love you very much…because they care.  They wouldn’t be so involved or concerned with what you’re doing if they didn’t.  It’s something that we, as humans, have a problem with…we medal with the lives of the people we care about because it’s “easier” than just plain talking to them about it.  You need to express to them how their actions are depressing you, that this is hard for you, and you’re just trying to get threw it.  Ask them to support the things that are making you happy, for example, hanging out with this guy friend of yours.  You might have to remind them that you are only 26 years old and that most of the people your age still act like teenagers!  You need to take advatage of the fact that you’re 26 and live a little!  So in closing, be honest, be strong, and be stern.

I hope this helps you!

xoxo,

BreannaLee

Questionnaire.

AskBreannaLee: Hello!   I love the SMV site, I visit it daily : )   I’m sending out questions to answer just for fun!

xoxo

Stephanie G

SG: Did you go to NYFW?

BL: No, I did not got to NYFW, unfortunately.  Would have loved to though…I think I was in NY the week before :/

SG: What are your favorite looks of the season?

BL: Well, right now I truly love/practice all kinds of leg wear like…tiny socks with oxfords, thigh highs and garter belts…but I prefer them with shorts because they look less slutty?…oxymoron?…less slutty garter belts?…whatever, I love them, grandma looking knee highs (especially if they’re nylons!…so funny/sexy?), and my newest fav thing is to find crazy printed tights in the children’s section and cut them to wear as thigh highs…kids tights just have so many more crazy patterns….I just wore plaid the other day :)  Other than that, I LOVE the “bedtime for daytime” look thats been happening this Spring (2010)…I hope it continues.  That’s a trend I tend to practice even when its not in style :/

SG: Favorite book?

BL: Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland

SG: You’re a designer right – what is your inspiration?

BL: Oh man, I pull inspiration from so many things…its unreal.  In the last couple years I tend to let color lead me, then I float around fabric warehouses and cut swatches of everything that zings my heart, and then I start to plug them into bodies.  I let it happen extremely organically and a little backwards, but it works for me.  The bodies I tend to choose are usually inspired by vintage…and wishing it were updated, had a better fabric, fit better, or whatever else I can find in it to change.

SG: Favorite film?

BL: The Wizard of Oz  (the original).

SG: Favorite photos of yourself or photos you’ve taken from the last few weeks/months?

BL: Fav photos of myself, eh?

bday.cardThis last one is old, but man, is it funny!

I wore this vintage dress to my old job last year and there just happen to be fabric exactly like it under one of the girl’s desks (thank you Moni).

Soooooo we “Garden State”ed my ass.

I later made it into a birthday flyer…soooo dumb.

Oh yeah, and Lindsay and I on a roller coaster is pretty sweet.

You really shouldn’t have asked for photos…I have no shame…just opened Pandora’s Box.

SG: Best memory?

BL: I feel like this a trick question…for me, at least.  I don’t think I have a “best memory”.  Each age has a little heartache that I can’t seem to forget, no matter how hard I try.  Sadly, its the bad/sad memories that stick to you the longest and most vividly.  Even my most simple memories that have left a nice peaceful feeling have a bit of sadness behind them.  Wow, that was a downer answer…truthful, but downer.  I do have to say that I have SO many things to be thankful for that I can’t just pinpoint a single memory.  I’ll tell you most recent (this last week) “best memory”!…spending some time with my friend, Lindsay, making jewelry…and getting really excited about it :)

SG: If you could spend the evening conversing with any five people from any time in history, who would they be?

BL: I feel like this is a “Suzanne” question…weird.

#1.) My grandfather, Leonard Tharaldson…I would like to appreciate a conversation with him as an adult.

#2.) My grandfather, Overton Pratt II…I would like to play a game of checkers with him (and not be afraid) and talk about how he started his 60 year sporting goods business with only $10 in his pocket when arriving to Redlands…I have so many questions!…what an inspiration!

#3.)  Louise Brooks…mainly cause I have this weird curiosity about her life.

#4.)  Lewis Carroll (a.k.a. Charles Dodgson)…really just to find out if he was just infatuated with children (as I hope), or if he was a child molester (as rumored).  I think he’s amazingly creative, so I’m hoping he was a good man…actually, SCRATCH that, I don’t wanna know…I just wanna love him.

#4a.)  Romain de Tirtoff (a.k.a. Ertè)…I would love to share a couple bottles of wine and talk ALL evening about what inspires us in designs…and, of course, I would be extremely curious to hear some of his stories of Harper’s Bazar!

#5.)  Coco Chanel…because I am moved by her.

SG: Favorite recipe?

BL: Haha…this is funny, mainly cause I don’t cook.  Well, I cook, but its all so strange.  I have a gluten allergy, so not much of what I make looks appealing to others (even though it tastes good), nor does it have a name…haha…I don’t even make everything the same each time!  I tend to refer to the things I make as “Slumgullion”.  My dad is 100% Norwegian and we still eat a few traditional items he grew up with.  Whenever his mother (my grandmother) made up a dish of all kinds of leftovers or a stew or something like that, they called it “Slumgullion”.  My Step-mother has taken this task over quite perfectly.  Unfortunately my meals look like I just threw a bunch of leftovers in a skillet (sounds much more gross than it actually is), so that’s what I eat and that’s what I call my meals…?

SG: Best thing to do, people to spend a Friday night with?

BL: Okay, well lately I’ve been a bit of a hermit by staying home and watching movies with my Baby Kitty, BUT when I do go out I prefer it to be with a small group of some close friends in a bar/restaurant/house/apt that I can actually hear them speak in.  I get super bummed when I have to yell over a ton of noise…I lose my voice like once a week :/  Its my favorite thing to hear all the amazing things my friends have going on and to catch up on their lives….they are ALL so talented.

If I am gonna get crazy with it, then I like to go somewhere where we can shake our asses all night long!…yeow!

SG: What are you looking forward to right now?

BL: I’m looking forward to meeting my sister at my dad’s house and having dinner with them…and also that my sister will actually be in town!  We’re doing a photo shoot together tomorrow for various projects!…can’t wait.  It’s the simple things :)

Thanks Stephanie!

New Claws.

Sooo, I was bored and I wanted a new nail color.  I spent about 2 hours mixing all my existing colors into new colors!

I ended up with so many cool new ones that I didn’t even bother to go buy any new colors.

This is what I’m currently obsessed with…”Cement Grey”…that’s what I’m callin’ it…

IMG_0714IMG_0712IMG_0708IMG_0717IMG_0716IMG_0719

Okay, so I got a little carried away and ended up looking like one of the goth girls that went to my high school!

They used to hang out on “the steps of the gym” and make out all the time…whatever.

So weird, but I kind of love the idea of a little bit of halloween year round :)

I did this in 2 seconds (I don’t know what came over me…I couldn’t help it)…obvi if you spent a little more time it could look pretty legit.

I mean, with all the nail art popping up everywhere…why not?

Besides, my left hand can’t handle “leopard print”…you know what I’m sayin’?

Carly Kennelly Photography.

Carly Kennelly is a friend of mine that I have hired for several photo shoots in the past.

She and I are going to be working together again soon!

We’ll be putting together a video look book for my Fall 2010 line and if it goes well then I’ll probably be doing one for Spring as well!

I’m so excited about this because I think she is super talented.

Here a couple of the many stop motion videos that she has made in the past…

My 26th birthday.

The dress I’m wearing is Suzanne’s favorite.

Also, I was roofied that night…(and I don’t wanna talk about it).

This is a trip that Carly and I took to NY a few years ago….best trip, seriously, I can’t even begin to tell the stories.

Okay, on with the photography!

Picture 13Picture 14

These 2 photos are of my youngest sister (a few years ago).  She needed to update her modeling portfolio.

(I did all the styling and they were taken in my old apartment in Long Beach…ahhh, I miss it).

wedding as well…not the photographer…they were all candid!

AND soooo beautiful.

<3 you guys.

Picture 15

This is Sam (another talented friend of mine who had some cameos in one of the videos)…and I love this photo…so perfect.

Stunning sunset in Hollywood.

Picture 17Picture 4

These shots show a simple view of how diverse Carly can be with her photography.

Very nice.

Picture 3

I freaked when I saw this!

NORWAY!!!!!!

In front of my old apartment door…original door from the twenties, when the building was built.

A cat I rescued from a freaky druggie neighbor that left town for 2 weeks with this little kitty inside…all alone…and just a bag of food ripped open on the floor for her to eat.

Saddest thing ever.  I could hear her crying through the floor!, so I broke in and stole her.

Named her Norway because she was blonde with blue eyes…I know, thats stereotyping, but I actually AM Norwegian, so I’m allowed (no questions).

Picture 2

This is me @ Suzanne’s bachelorette party.

Standard, downtown, LA.

I seriously don’t think that I ever saw this photo.

Reminds me of The Wizard of Oz (my ALL time favorite movie).

Picture 6Picture 7Picture 8

These are some photos from her TRAVELS that are my favs.

Picture 10Picture 11

And these are some from a wedding that she did.

LOVE.

That bride looks absolutely beautiful…great hair.

And then there is this little flower girl picking up her petals she spilled…I mean, come on?…cuuuuuuute.

P.s. Love the older lady’s legs/paisley dress…and the fact that the toilet seat cover is up.  I don’t know, don’t ask.

COACHELLAAAAAAAAA!

Whoooooooooo!

COACHELLA DAY 1

When we got to the desert, our mini vaca immediately started with a trip to the store where we needed to buy food and drinks…

and a razor for Teddi :/

Why are there SO many choices in America?!?!?!

It gives me anxiety…and it took us about 15 minutes to pick one for her (yeah, you heard me…she opted to stay at the condo).

All necklaces are A Tale of a Gypsy Pirate jewelry.

Her amazing belt = LOVE.

Coachella.2010.12

She designed this double ring as well!

And she gifted me one which I had on the entire weekend :)

BreannaLee “Long Claw” tank.  /  Vintage belt and cut-off Levi’s.  /  BreannaLee “Fancy” bike shorts.

Black Justin boots never came…literally…I slept in them one night :/

Coachella.2010.19

Most jewelry vintage and/or was my mother’s/grandmother’s <3

BUT the earrings are n.om, which were also gifted to me by the amazing designer/creator, Natalia.

She custom made them for me and this is pretty much my favorite thing ever!…

Coachella.2010.21

<3 her for that.

Coachella.2010.24

Theodore…graciously greeting us to the desert and his condo.

Coachella.2010.37

One of our views.

Coachella.2010.38

Teddi (one of my NY loves)…check out her hair blog…and Sarah.

We ended up taking this dirt road in route to the Vestal party.  We had no idea where we were going (literally).

Theodore just kept telling me to keep driving through the desert.  Not gonna lie, it looked the kind of place you drop a dead body…super sketchy :/

But, hey. I trust the guy!…and we made it, weirdly enough.

Just waiting for our ride…in a bus!

A freaky gypsy hippy VW that is ;)

Teddi Girl…wearing a vintage jumper she picked up in Portland before she came down to the desert.

Coachella.2010.61

Sarah Darling wearing the cutest little body suit…which she later (much later) ended up swimming in, but thats a whole different story.

Coachella.2010.63

Janina Baby!!!!…

she had just arrived (otherwise she would have been in our desert opt) and looking fantastic, I might add.

Janina is a very talented shoe designer friend of mine.  We met in design school a ways back  <3

I’m very proud of her.
