SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW…

It really was no miracle. What happened was just this…
PLAY!

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby…

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.

Where troubles melt like lemon drops

Away above the chimney tops

That’s where you’ll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.

Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly

Beyond the rainbow

Why, oh why can’t I?

COME ON A MY HOUSE!

PLAY!
I wrote the story myself. It’s about a girl who lost her reputation and never missed it.
- Mae West

Graze on my lips; and if those hills be dry, stray lower, where the pleasant
fountains lie. -William Shakespeare

Oooooooh! Yeah, I suppose I deserve a bit o’ that…

The Barbie I grew up with…

Nope it wasn’t any of those… the Barbie I grew up with was
Klaus Barbie.

Nikolaus ‘Klaus’ Barbie (October 25, 1913 – September 25, 1991) was an
SS-Hauptsturmführer (rank approximately equivalent to army captain),
Gestapo member and war criminal. He was known as ‘The Butcher of Lyon’.
This incredible documentary tells you the whole story of Klaus Barbie as a Nazi,
his years living in Bolivia and his final extradition for trial in France.
The use of the French popular song “J’attendrai” (”I Will Wait”) recorded by Rina
Ketty in 1938 is rather fitting as the prelude to this fascinating and hearbreaking
story. Please watch it all, I can’t tell you enough how much you will get from it.
Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8,
Part 9.
In the last video, the judge asks Barbie if he has anything to say in his defense:
“Yes, your honor, just a few words in French” – says Barbie. You can clearly
hear the murmuring hatred of the crowd who must have despised his seemingly
ironic comment and the fact that he is about to pronounce his last words in
French. As I look at the gesture on his face and the look in his eyes, my own
eyes seem to have divided opinions. One eye looks at him wondering if this is
the last straw of his cruel and insensitive character; whilst my other eye sees
the profound shame and incredible pain disguised behind his wry smile… What
both my eyes have in common is that both of them have cried.
A few years later… after telling me about Klaus Barbie on several occassions
my Dad finally gave in and bought me my one and only “American Barbie” for
Christmas. It must have been a big deal for him, cause Barbies were ridiculously
expensive in Bolivia back then and although we were not poor, my Dad was a
good old Catalan, so I can only imagine how much he must have really loved me
to spend his cash on what he must have thought was a mindless piece of plastic.
I loved her so much and I was thrilled to have her, although I did not learn as
much from her as I did from listening to my Dad talk about Klaus Barbie and all
those other fascinating stories about the war.
This is what my Barbie looked like, if you are curious:

Her pretty eighties outfit glowed in the dark and she came with a tape full of eighties
tunes which sounded kind of like this:

Those were the two Barbies I grew up with…
